Perham's new softball coach Megan Johnson wasn't fazed by her team dropping their first two games of the season when the lost to Wadena-Deer Creek in their season opener Tuesday, 10-5 and 10-9.
"It was a beautiful opening day for Jacket fastpitch," Johnson said. "A lot of great things happened out there for day one."
Perham's defense struggled in the 10-5 loss in game one, as they committed six errors. Keep in mind it was just the third day the team had been outdoors, thanks to the winter-like weather they've had to deal with in the first weeks of practice.

Game two also started out slowly, as W-DC had an 8-0 lead before the Jacket bats came alive. Perham began their comeback in the bottom of the third as they loaded the bases with one out and scored their first run on a wild pitch. A RBI single by Kayla Speicher and a three-base error by the Wolverine pitcher after a hit by Mallory Malikowski to clear the bases cut the lead in half. Janet Malcolm finished the inning with a RBI single to make the score 8-5.
Perham added another run in the fourth on a RBI double by Alyssa Stafki and they completed the comeback with a three-run fifth, keyed by a two-run hit by Sara Formanek.
The rally wasn't quite enough for Perham to get their first win, as W-DC picked up single runs in the sixth and seventh for the 10-9 win.
