The funeral services for Larry James Wouters, 62, Vergas, Minnesota, were held Sunday, September 24, 2006, 2 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Vergas, Minnesota with Reverend Michael Wolters officiating.  Burial took place Monday, September 25, 2006, 9 a.m., at Spruce Grove Cemetery near Wolf Lake, Minnesota.  Visitation was Saturday, September 23, 2006 at Furey Funeral Home, Frazee, Minnesota from 4 - 8 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service at the church.  Larry died of cancer on September 21, 2006 at his home in Vergas, MN, surrounded by his family and under the additional care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Larry was born October 2, 1943 in Seattle, Washington to Richard and Margaret (Mee) Wouters.  He grew up near Acorn Lake and graduated from Frazee High School in 1961, then joined the United States Navy where he served for four years based at Puget Sound Navel Station, Bremerton, Washington.

He married Kathleen Edna Bachmann on April 17, 1964 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee, Minnesota.  Upon returning from Washington, he worked in Detroit Lakes at Hardware Hank, as a custodian for Frazee-Vergas Schools, then as a carpenter and self-taught taxidermist. 

He loved sports, hunting, and fishing.  At one time, he had 22 stray cats that came and went from his garage that he fed and made beds for, keeping them warm in the cold weather with a heat lamp.  He named each one according to their uniqueness.

Larry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathy; two children; Kristina (Ole) Barten, Vergas, MN and Ryan Wouters (Deb Menke) of Hawley, MN; granddaughter Jessica Barten of Fargo, ND; step-granddaughter Tawn (Dan) Lundgren and  step-great granddaughter Maygen of Ladysmith, WI; one sister Bonnie (Al) Ludden of Fergus Falls, MN; sister-in-law Marilyn (Duane) Greiser of Garden City, MO; brothers-in-law Ed (Joyce) Bachmann of Barnesville, MN, Clair (Verna) Bachmann and Jon (Lola) Bachmann all of Frazee, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

His parents, Dick and Margaret Wouters; his in-laws Otto and Margaret Bachmann; and two half brothers Richard Jr. and Bobby Wouters, preceded him in death.

Larry loved his family and had a sense of humor that stayed with him until the end.
