Lloyd J. Fischer, loving husband, father, and grandfather, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 16, 2006 at the age of 72.  Funeral services will be held Friday, October 20, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Loon Lake, Vergas, MN with Reverend Michael Wolters officiating.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Furey Funeral Home, Frazee, and one hour prior to the service in the church.  Burial is scheduled for Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 5 p.m. in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Omaha, Nebraska.

Lloyd John Fischer was born April 20, 1934, the son of John and Sophie (Neuhaus) Fischer at the family farm near Millard, NE.  He graduated from high school in Millard.  and Commercial Extension Business College in Omaha.  While in high school, Lloyd played basketball and baseball.  His high school basketball team was recently inducted into Nebraska's Basketball Hall of Fame.  After high school, Lloyd pursued his love for baseball by signing with a Los Angeles Dodgers farm team as a pitcher.  He played for teams based in Kentucky and Wisconsin.  Lloyd was united in marriage to Darlene Benedict on March 6, 1955 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Falls City, NE.  They were blessed with two children.  After farming for two years on the family farm, Lloyd and Darlene moved to Seward, NE where he worked for Aid Association for Lutherans as an insurance agent and estate planner.  The family lived in Seward for 19 years before moving to Louisiana and then to Marshall, Minnesota, building an agency of people he loved like family.  He retired after a 35 year career in the business.

Lloyd and Darlene moved to the Dent area after his retirement, making their home on Star Lake where he enjoyed many mornings and evenings on their porch, looking over the lake.  He also enjoyed hunting, especially goose, duck and pheasant; fishing with his grandchildren; golfing with his wife; and following his two favorite teams, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.  Lloyd was always an active member at his church, serving the Lord in various capacities throughout his life.  Especially important to him was giving children a Christian education.

He is survived by his wife Darlene of Dent, MN; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and David of Murdock, NE; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Rhonda Fischer of North Branch, MN; three precious grandchildren, Hannah, Jacob and Bailey; a sister, Edith Inman of Gretna, NE, brothers-in-law, Delbert Benedict and wife Joyce of Omaha, NE and John Benedict of Prior Lake, MN; nieces, nephews and many friends.
