United Community Bank has announced a new initiative to bring financial literacy education to high school students in Perham and Frazee.
The bank will provide access to the EverFi Financial Literacy learning platform. This web-based program uses the latest in new media technology – simulations, avatars, gaming and adaptive-pathing – to bring complex financial concepts to life for today’s digital generation.
Through this platform, students will become certified in hundreds of topics in personal finance. United Community Bank has partnered with EverFi, Inc. to bring this program to students at no cost to the schools.
“It is more important than ever to arm our young people with the skills to navigate an increasingly complex financial system,” said bank President Charlie Cavanagh. “We are excited to offer students an innovative educational experience that uses the tools they love – digital learning and gaming – to teach this important topic.”
Perham High School Principal Ehren Zimmerman said the school district is grateful to be partnered with United Community Bank to help build educational opportunities for students.

“The EverFi Finance Literacy curriculum has provided an education platform for students while teaching viable and valuable life skills,” he said.
The 10-unit course offers approximately six hours of programming aimed at teaching, assessing and certifying students in a variety of relevant financial topics including credit scores, insurance, credit cards, student loans, mortgages, taxes, stocks, savings, 401ks and other critical concepts that map to national financial literacy standards.
“EverFi is a wonderful interactive simulation that gives students an opportunity to learn about real life situations in a variety of activities,” said Becky Butenhoff of Perham High School.
The platform uniquely tracks the progress and score of every student and provides students who successfully complete the course with Certification in Financial Literacy, a valuable mark of distinction on college applications and resumes.
“From the small rural towns to major cities across the U.S., EverFi technology is literally transforming how students learn, and we are incredibly grateful for the public-private partnerships that make this possible,” said EverFi CEO Tom Davidson. “United Community Bank is critical to the success of our mission to ensure that these cutting-edge tools reach all communities.”
United Community Bank is locally owned and operated with offices in Perham, Dent and Frazee.
EverFi teams with major corporations and foundations to provide the programs at no cost to schools. To date, more than 4 million students have completed EverFi learning platforms.
