Perham — To celebrate the water skiing’s 100th anniversary, USA Water Ski and Wake Sports, along with Big Pine Lake Water Ski Team, a local water ski club, will host a free Get on the Water Learn to Ski Clinic on July 7-8 at Big Pine Lake.
The Get on the Water Learn to Ski Clinic at Big Pine Lake will begin at 9 a.m. both days. Participants do not need any prior water-skiing experience to participate. The ability to swim is recommended but not required. Each participant will wear a life vest.
On July 2, 1922, history was changed when Ralph Samuelson became the first person to successfully water ski. USA Water Ski and Wake Sports is honoring the birth of our sport by offering everyone the chance to learn to ski all summer long!
“We are excited to be working with the community to bring this event to Perham,” said USA Water Ski and Wake Sports Executive Director Nate Boudreaux. “The USA Water Ski and Wake Sports National Get on the Water program is a nationwide initiative designed to offer everyone a chance to learn to ski and we hope to see many local residents take advantage of this opportunity.”
USA Water Ski and Wake Sports recognizes that financial limitations often hinder participation in towed water sports. Get on the Water was designed to provide a fun, non-intimidating environment in which participants can learn to water ski for free.

Get on the Water is a coast-to-coast initiative, waiving all sanctioning fees and guest membership fees for USA Water Ski and Wake Sports affiliated clubs that host basic skills learn to ski events through July 31, 2022, providing clubs with a national platform, the opportunity to connect with their community, and the ability to better reach those who might not otherwise be able to participate.
Get on the Water is presented by Radar Skis and sponsored by Indmar Marine, MasterCraft Boat Company and Visit Central Florida.
