Perham speech team earns first place at Battle Lake Invitational

The Perham speech team finished with 114 points on its way to the title. Parkers Prairie finished with 65 points for second place, while Underwood was third with 44 points.

Haven Roth receives first place in the Drama category. He was one of five competitors who placed first in all rounds, a rare achievement known as "straight ones." Duo partners, Josh Kalina and Molly Pearson, also received straight ones. Pearson earned straight ones in her individual event, Extemp Reading, too.

PERHAM — The Perham speech team earned first place during the Battle Lake Invitational on Saturday, March 4. The team finished with 114 points on its way to the title. Parkers Prairie finished with 65 points for second place, while Underwood was third with 44 points. Overall, the Yellowjackets were the top team of the 14 schools competing.

Shelby Johnson earned an honorable mention and a ribbon in Original Oratory during the competition.
