The public is invited to offer written comments concerning the Mandatory Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) for the reconstruction of 3.14 miles of County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 35 between CSAH 18 and CSAH 1 in Sverdrup Township near Underwood. The open comment period is March 8 through April 7.
The overall goal of the reconstruction project is to improve traffic safety while minimizing and mitigating environmental impacts. Since the road was originally built, design standards for safety have progressed, and this project will meet current safety standards.
In the reconstruction plan, ditch slopes will not be as steep, the road will have wider shoulders and will include banking on curves. This leads to the need for an additional right of way to meet current safety standards.

“The Highway Department encourages people with interest in this project to provide written comments during the comment period,” said Assistant County Engineer Matt Yavarow in a news release. “The environmental assessment is mandatory and therefore we are required to provide a 30-day comment period.”
The EAW will be available to view electronically at bit.ly/CSAH35 and during business hours at the Otter Tail County Highway Department at 505 S. Court Street, Suite 1, Fergus Falls.
