On August 15, while spending time at her lake home, Susan Detviler of Cottage Grove purchased what turned out to truly be a $500,000 Riches scratch ticket from Gas Mart in Osakis.
Detviler scratched the ticket and didn't immediately notice that one of her numbers matched one of the winning numbers until her daughter pointed it out.
"She said, 'You have 24, mom,' " Detviler recalled. "I looked and saw it and thought, this isn't right."
The prize for matching the number was $500,000. The odds of winning it were one in 320,000.
The duo couldn't wait to tell Detviler's husband, Richard, the good news, she recalled.

"I said, 'We've got to go home. We have to go to Roseville.' Then I showed him the ticket," Detviler explained.
Richard said he looked at it about five times before saying it looked good.
They went back to the store to check the ticket and got the message it was a winner and needed to be claimed at the lottery office.
The couple was truly convinced after they received a prize check for $500,000 at lottery headquarters in Roseville August 16.
