Larry Lovold guarantees his passion for the outdoors will not stop now that he has retired as President of Lund Boat Co. in New York Mills.
After 28 years of dedicated service to the Lund Boat organization, Lovold retired as president and Andrew Klopak will take over his duties. Klopak spent the last four years as President of Lund Canada. He has been with Lund Canada for 17 years in various sales and marketing roles, including VP of Sales & Marketing for four years. He now has the responsibility for all Lund activities in both the U.S. and Canada.
Lovold looks forward to the move and spending more time on the water and in the great outdoors. He plans to retire to a life of fishing, hunting and spending time at his new home currently being built in Florida.
This will provide me more time to pursue my passion of fishing in my Lund Pro-V, Lovold said. I do have a passion for Lund and always have.
Lovold started with Lund in 1977 as General Sales Manager. He became V.P. of Sales and later President in 1982. And while on an airplane returning home from Florida, he later came up with the name, Pro-V, which is now one of the most recognized trademarks in the boat industry.
Ive had a very rewarding career for myself and my family. Ill miss the day-to-day relationships with all the friends, both internally and externally, in the business. You cant work some place for 30 years without taking some very fond memories with you.
Klopak, originally from Winnepeg, Manitoba, started with Lund Canada in 1988. He and Lovold have become good friends over the years and share a love for fishing and for the company. Theyve fished together and against each other many times, fueling a friendly competitive rivalry.
Im proud to pass the baton, not only to a good friend but to a well-seasoned veteran in the marine business, that shares the same passion for Lund as I do, Lovold commented.
Lovold, who will work closely with Klopak through June to ensure a successful leadership transition, said he looks forward to serving in a supporting role. Then the long-time Lund leader will ride off into the sunset on his great white horse. That horse being a 42foot recreational vehicle.
Lovold will remain on a part-time advisory role through 2006, reporting to Andrew Graves, President of the Freshwater Boat Group. Lovold will offer support on key projects, including dealer development, product development and key externally focused initiatives.
Klopak has assembled a single management team to support Lund in both the U.S. and Canada, with a core staff consisting of Steve Christiansen (V.P. Finance); Mark Dockter (V.P. Operations); and Tom MacNair (V.P. Sales & Marketing), this according to a statement released by Brunswick. These individuals have functional responsibililty for both of the Lund facilities in New York Mills and Steinbach, Manitoba.
