Beginning this fall, Minnesota State Community and Technical College - Moor-head is offering an online Fire Officer Certification Program to prepare firefighters for command and leadership roles in their community fire departments.
The 22-credit course focuses on both fire ground competencies and the leadership skills needed to successfully manage volunteer fire departments.
Graduates will be prepared to take the certification tests for Fire Instructor I, Fire Officer I and Fire Officer II.
Online classes are taught by experienced fire officers and based on the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education model, which increases credit transferability for firefighters who are pursuing an associate degree.
Prerequisites include two years of experience with the rank of firefighter or higher in an organized fire department and Firefighter I and II certification from an accredited agency.
