To encourage citizens to integrate physical activity in their daily lives, Perham Mayor Tim Meehl has declared the week of August 23-29 as Walk or Bike to Work Week.
According to U.S. health officials, one of every three adults in Minnesota does not meet the national recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) of 150 minutes of physical activity per week. Officials say one easy way to do so is to integrate more walking and biking into daily routines.
- People can walk or bike to work, school, church, your service club, during lunch and other breaks and after work, school or church.
- If you need to drive to your destination, park farther away. Think beyond the back of the parking lot. Consider two to six blocks away.
- Try it any day of the week of August 23029. Bike or walk to worship day will kick the week off on Sunday, August 22.
The public can take part by walking or biking more in their daily routine during this week, but they can also register for prizes. Everyone who registers will be entered into a drawing for prizes.
