A joint meeting of the Perham's Promise Board of Directors and the local Early Childhood Family Initiative will be held on Tuesday, December 5 at 11:45 a.m. at the Perham United Methodist Church.

Guest speakers at this lunch meeting will be Andrew Hyser and Karen Kingsley from Minnesota Ready4K. Their topic will be "Advocacy Works" and will focus on influencing legislative policies and funding to benefit our youngest citizens.

"Sometimes a telephone call to a legislator can raise a lot more funding for early education programs than traditional fundraising using bake sales and other methods," said Hyser, Senior Organizer of Ready4K in Duluth.

The Perham Initiative has had investing in youth as their main area of focus this year. In the final year of a multi-year grant cycle with West Central Initiative Foundation, the group is looking for ways to sustain several programs begun in the past few years.

Programs like Tot Time at the PACC, Stories on the Go, and the Early Childhood Welcome Express will welcome local sponsorships and creative funding ideas in order to continue providing services to area children and families.
