The funeral service for Melvin Gilomen, 88, Vergas, MN will be held on Friday, July 20, 2007 at 2 p.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Loon Lake, Vergas with Reverend Robert Hinckley officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery-Loon Lake. Melvin died on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 in the Vergas Assisted Living.
Melvin Hans Gilomen was the son of Rudy and Dora (Heise) Gilomen on April 7, 1919 in Brewster, MN. At the age of seven, he moved with his family to Perham and here he was raised and attended school. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Kratzke on June 29, 1941 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Loon Lake. Melvin worked in the mines in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho and then returned to Perham. He then worked at the dairy plant, Otter Tail County Highway Department and Tuffy's.
In 1950 until 1972 they dairy farmed in Gorman Township, near Perham. Melvin and Phyllis also lived in Backus, MN, Post Falls, Idaho and then to Vergas.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Gilomen of Thief River Falls, MN; two sons, Larry (Bonnie) Gilomen of Carpio, ND; Myron (Wendy) Gilomen of Menomonie, WI; two daughters, Gwendolyn Gilomen of Thief River Falls, MN and Carmen (Bernie) Stinson also of Thief River Falls. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
