Minnesota hunter dies in deer stand accident

HIBBING, Minn. - Authorities say a hunter from the Twin Cities died when his clothing caught fire while he was trying to light a heater in his deer stand in rural St. Louis County on opening day of the season Saturday.

HIBBING, Minn. - Authorities say a hunter from the Twin Cities died when his clothing caught fire while he was trying to light a heater in his deer stand in rural St. Louis County on opening day of the season Saturday.

The St. Louis County sheriff's office said 84-year-old Arthur Joseph Knafla of Maple Grove died southeast of Hibbing around 9:45 a.m. Saturday.

According to the Duluth News Tribune, a news release said Knafla was attempting to light the propane heater in his deer stand but fell from it when his clothing began burning.
