An omnibus hearing has been set for Oct. 21 in the case of a former Laporte man charged with possession of child pornography.

Coincidentally, that day is also set for a plea hearing in the case of Fredrick William Bachman, 27, who is also charged in the death of Lake Hattie resort owner James Schwartzbauer, 57.

In that case, Bachman faces charges of Second Degree Murder.

Bachman was recently charged with seven felony counts of pornography.

Schwartzbauer’s body was found May 31 in the burned rubble of his Lake Hattie home, which he was converting into a religious retreat.

The latest charges each allege Bachman possessed child pornography on computer discs from around 2009 and 2010 until his arrest in 2013.

At the time he was living on and off with Schwartzbauer.

Bachman is in the Hubbard County Correctional Center on $600,000 unconditional bond in the murder case. He has been letting his hair and beard grow out during his detention and appears almost as a Biblical figure in orange jail scrubs.

In the murder charge he has private council. Bachman is represented by a public defender on the pornography charges.
