Madeline Mitchell, a student at Nevis High School, has been selected as the winner of Arvig's essay contest and will attend the Foundation for Rural Services (FRS) Youth Tour, June 1-5.
Mitchell will join more than 100 other high school students from rural America for an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., where they'll get an inside look at the legislation and governmental process of the telecommunications industry.
"The Youth Tour provides young people from our area a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience," said David Arvig, chief operating officer/vice president of Arvig. "We're excited to support an opportunity like this and to send Madeline as our representative this year."
The FRS Youth Tour provides a forum for teens to meet and interact with their peers from other rural communities, as well as key legislative, regulatory and government figures. The Youth Tour delegates will explore historic sites including Arlington National Cemetery, Capitol Hill, Mount Vernon, Lincoln Memorial, Washington National Cathedral, the U.S. Supreme Court and Smithsonian Institution.
