Out with the old, in with the new.

The "new" Perham Pirates, led by a influx of young, home-grown talent, rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning at Al Krueger Field Sunday to take down Detroit Lakes, 3-2.

The Pirates won the game in the ninth when a two-out single by Justin Berns brought home Herschel Masinas and Andy Kratzke. Masinas was pinch-running for manager Mike Winjum, who started the rally with a one-out single. Kratzke followed with a double before Burns won the game.

Perham was led by two outstanding pitching performances to keep them in the game against the "old" Pirates. Starter Tyler Sjolie went five innings, allowing just one run on four hits. A.J. Masinas picked up the win with four innings of three-hit ball, allowing just one unearned run.

D.L. scored one run in the third on a bases loaded walk. Their second run came in the eighth on a Perham error.

The Pirates got on the board in the sixth when Kevin Feldt scored on a ground out by Matt Schornack.

The D.L. Angels are a new team in the HI-10 this season. The majority of their line-up is made up of players from last year's Pirate team.

Millers blanked

New York Mills dropped their second game of the season Sunday to Wadena-Deer Creek, 2-0.

The Millers had their chances as they twice had the bases loaded with one out and failed to get a run across.

Tony Meech went the distance in the loss for the Millers, allowing five hits and one earned run.

Bluffton falls in 10

The Bluffton Braves left 16 runners on base and hit into a triple play in a 2-1 loss to Pelican Rapids in 10 innings on Sunday.

Brent Weller went 2-for-2 in the loss and Jake Seelhammer and Dustin Geiser each had a double. Cody Geiser was tagged with the loss as he and starter Dustin Geiser combined for nine strike outs.
