Thirty youngsters attended the kindergarten registration night March 16 at the New York Mills elementary school.

With those 30, plus another 20 that have contacted the school, Principal Greg Esala is anticipating 50 kindergarten students next year.

In other action at the March 27 NY Mills School Board meeting.

Two resignations were accepted by the New York Mills school board.

Clyde Gimbel has coached track the past few seasons, after his retirement from teaching, but said that the upcoming spring season would be his final. Gimbel said he was submitting the resignation early, to provide ample time for the school administration to find a replacement.

Bus driver Mike Wedde submitted his letter of resignation.

Jodi Raser, high school guidance counselor requested 24 weeks of maternity leave, the first two trimesters of the 2006-2007 school year.

Trips OKd for student conventions

FFA students will be attending the Minnesota State Convention April 23-25. Ag education instructor Paul Detloff submitted a request for 24 students to attend the event.

Twenty of the students will be competing in contests; four will be busy being voting delegates; and one will be interviewing and nominating next years officer team.

Two New York Mills students will be receiving the highest FFA state degree, reported Detloff.

Mills student Tessa Wegscheid will be competing in the National BPA competition, which is May 10-14 in Orlando, Florida. Her trip was approved.

The FCCLA state conference is April 27-28, and the board approved the trip.

Travel expense policy clarified

In another travel related item, the board is in the process of clarifying the policy for paying expenses for student and teacher travel.

Under the policy, which will be voted on in April, the school is responsible for paying expenses for the teacher or advisor for competitive events. Student transportation expenses are the responsibility of the district, but meals and lodging are the responsibility of the student or group. When a student qualifies for a Minnesota State High School League event, the district is responsible for all expenses including lodging and meals.

The school is not responsible for student or teacher expenses relating to national competitions or events.
