LeadershipPlenty is a comprehensive, 9-module curriculum focusing on how groups can work together on common problems in their community. The curriculum teaches vital civic skills including conflict management, strategic planning, media relations, and other skills that will enhance the leadership ability in their existing community service programs, or prepare them to start new organizations to tackle pressing problems.
"We wanted to increase the community's capacity to work together and solve tough problems," said Amy Wallgren, one of the local trainers for LeadershipPlenty.
Four NY Mills residents - Marcia Abbott, Amy Wallgren, Julie Adams, and Michelle Helmeke were trained in a LeadershipPlenty train-the-trainer seminar and will be holding training for the group of 25 this coming weekend and in May.
LeadershipPlenty is one of the segments of the Horizons program, which strengthens leadership and civic engagement systems in rural communities of between 500 and 5,000 that have experienced decline in population, income and resources.
In order for the community to successfully complete the Horizons program more people are needed to participate in this weekend's training.
