New York Mills School teachers were among teams of educators from several regional school districts to participate in a professional development opportunity led by the Perpich Center for Arts Education.
The third year of concentrated Perpich Center support and direct professional development facilitation for Lakes Country teachers will conclude in June 2013. Teacher teams from Breckenridge, Lake Park Audubon, Morris, New York Mills, Osakis, Pelican Rapids and Rothsay will review student work samples and reflect on their skill and knowledge of collaborative arts integration.
An evaluation summary of project results from last year shows that 96 percent of participating teachers improved their ability to design arts integrated lessons and aligned assessments of learning, and 83 percent improved their ability to assess and evaluate student learning. A majority of teacher participants reported their students learned more through arts integration than they did through conventional instruction.
Anticipating greater reliance on technology to inform and link this regional professional development network, participants will prepare for the fourth year of project activities by completing online studies this summer.
