New York Mills traveled to Bagley Saturday for a tournament and quite enjoyed their stay, going 3-1 at the tournament
The Eagles began pool play against Clearbrook-Gonvik, winning a very close match, 2-1 (25-21, 24-26, 15-11). Rutten had eight kills and three blocks for NYM. Molly Wallgren and Lauren Johnson each had four aces.
In their second game of pool play, Mills lost to East Grand Forks, 2-0 (25-23, 25-17).
As the second place team of Pool B, NY?Mills went into the Silver Division of the consolation bracket. They faced the host team, Bagley, winning, 2-0 ( 25-19, 25-15). Betsy Helmeke led the Eagles with five kills and four aces.
Their final game was against Red Lake Falls, where they finished their tournament on a high note, winning, 2-0 (27-25, 27-25).

"The girls were working as a team once again," Eagles head coach Amy Koskela said. "They were talking, moving their feet and staying low, which is what they weren't doing during last week's games. All in all, they were having fun."
Tuesday vs. W-DC
The Eagles had trouble finding their rhythm Tuesday night against the Wolverines' big hitters. After taking a 13-11 lead, W-DC won the first game 25-16.
The Eagles played the Wolverines point-for-point the first half of game two but couldn't put together any scoring rallies. After W-DC scored five straight points, the Eagles' Kimberlee Erickson scored a kill to get the Eagles to within four points at 14-18. NY Mills later crept within three at 18-21 on a Helmeke serve but the Wolverines were too strong at the net and won game two 25-18.
The Wolverines were too much for the Eagles in game three as W-DC won easily 25-9 for the 3-0 match sweep.
On the Road
The Lady Eagles will be on the road all week, starting with a trip to Pillager tonight (Sept. 25). Mills beat Pillager last year, 3-1, as the Huskies went winless in the Park Region Conference (0-6, 6-20 overall).
NY?Mills will play in the Bertha-Hewitt Tournament on Sept. 27. They will have Eagle Valley, Ashby and Upsala in pool play starting at 9:30 a.m. The other pool will have Bertha-Hewitt, Verndale, Brandon-Evansville and Pelican Rapids.

The Eagles return to conference play Sept. 30 when they head to Verndale. It will be a rubber-match for the season series as Verndale picked up a 2-0 win at the NYM?Tournament on Sept. 6, but the Eagles rebounded with a 3-1 win on Sept. 11.
