Great idea to have a skateboard park, but I think it's very important to have the kids in this community on the planning committee.
Kids in other cities have actually designed the parks and that helps them to own it. Kids should be the ones who develop the rules posted at the park. Not only skateboarders, but skaters and bikers, will want to use the park.
My son and his friends loved to travel to various parks and one guy participated in competition, broke a lot of bones and received some interesting prizes for his talents as a skater. A great park should attract a lot of kids, so make sure the park is located somewhere that kids have easy access to and from town or school...well, get those kids involved in the planning stages! Kids may need a secured area to put their things - backpacks, drinks, etc... Be sure to put in lots of benches to accommodate those of us who like to watch and cringe.
