The Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums will be honoring the Otter Tail County Historical Society with a Minnesota History Award at its annual meeting and conference on April 25 at Treasure Island & Casino just outside Red Wing. The Award is recognition for the role OTCHS played in commemorating Otter Tail County's 150th anniversary in 2018.

"It's very gratifying to be recognized by your peers within the local history community," said OTCHS Executive Director Chris Schuelke. "Celebrating the county's 150th was a team effort. I am so proud of the staff at the Otter Tail County Historical Society. They are among the most dedicated and hardworking you will find in our field. The Minnesota History Award is icing on the proverbial cake."

Otter Tail County Historical Society is one of seven projects that will honored by the Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums (MALHM). According to History Awards Committee Chair Adam Smith, an archives technician with Minnesota State University Mankato Library Services, "each project symbolizes the great work being done by local history organizations across the state."

MALHM was organized in 1991 with the motto of peers helping peers. It is a statewide organization that nurtures and encourages an appreciation of the local history of Minnesota by providing the structure to foster collaborative local history projects, communicate curatorial and educational information, and encourage professionalism among local and specialized historical organizations in Minnesota. More information on the organization can be found on their website at www.mnhistoryalliance.org .
