On June 21 at precisely 8:07 a.m. a Chinook helicopter landed at the Fergus Falls Airport to transport guests to Camp Ripley for the day. The Minnesota Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) and 2/136 Combined Arms Battalion invited employers, Veterans and others to visit Camp Ripley. Employers from several businesses in the region were welcomed to the training site. Guests were able to hear what guard members do, see some of their equipment and observe portions of training exercises.

Upon arrival, visitors were escorted to the auditorium to be briefed on what ESGR means to soldiers, their families and employers. Nicole Hansen, Human Resources Director for Otter Tail County, met with a representative who works with guard members in gaining employment outside the military.

"We were able to hear firsthand what members of the guard experience working for both the military and full-time careers," said Nicole Hansen. "This understanding helps us to better support our employees who serve. This was a very meaningful experience for staff of Otter Tail County."

Charlie Kampa, Veteran's Service Officer for Otter Tail County, visited with many guard members throughout the day. He was able to listen to the experiences of service members as well as see first-hand how service men and women train during their time at Camp Ripley. The OTC staff was privileged to witness mortar training and tank field operations. Visitors were given the opportunity to sit in a Bradley vehicle and see an unmanned aircraft system.

"I was honored to have the opportunity to listen to service men and women talk about their experiences and observe their dedication in training. The experience will help me to better serve Veterans in Otter Tail County," stated Charlie Kampa.
