Perham FFA students bring home honors

Twelve Perham FFA members earned awards at the Region 1 Award Interviews in February.

Three chapter members were nominated to receive the State FFA Degree, the highest degree that can be earned in the Minnesota FFA Association. Those recommended were Ashley Franks, Chapter President; April Lehman; and Ryan Guck. A student must have earned and invested $2000 from their Supervised Occupational Experience Program, have participated in ten activities above the chapter level, have in operation an outstanding Supervised Agricultural Experience Program, and present a six minute demonstration.

Students that were named winner in their Proficiency award categories were:

Shane Ruther earned first place in the Home and/or Community Development-Placement Proficiency.

Sheila Fritz earned first place in the Agricultural Sales-Placement Proficiency and in the Agricultural Service-Placement Proficiency.

Nathan Gorentz earned first place in the Diversified Agriculture - Placement Proficiency, and second place in the Dairy Production-Placement Proficiency.

Robert Franks earned first place in the Agricultural Mechanics-Design and Fabrication-Placement Management Proficiency and forth place in the Agricultural Mechanics-Repair and Maintenance-Placement Proficiency.

Joel Gorentz earned first place in the Diversified Livestock-Placement Proficiency.

Wade Salo earned second place in the Agricultural Mechanics-Design and Fabrication-Placement Proficiency.

April Lehman earned second place in the Agricultural Sales-Placement Proficiency.

Lucas Niehaus earned forth place in the Agricultural Sales-Placement Proficiency.

Samantha Langlie earned first place in the Diversified Livestock-Entrepreneurship Proficiency.

Tim Eickschen earned first place in the Vegetable Production Proficiency.

Students competing in the Region competition will compete in the State competition in late March. State winners whose applications are entered in National competition in August, earn a plaque in the shape of Minnesota, and receive a cash award.
