No one was injured when a car burst into flames Thursday evening outside of Perham.

Matthew James Lenk of Perham and a female passenger were traveling on County Road 8, eight miles north of Perham, around 7:30 p.m. when they noticed a burning smell.

Lenk stopped the Chevy half-ton pickup truck and the two checked the hood, where they noticed a small fire, according to Perham Fire Chief Mark Schmidt.

The two then stepped away from the vehicle and called 911. Perham Fire Department showed up on the scene, where they saw the truck fully engulfed in flames. The truck was a total loss.

"They (firefighters) did a great job knocking the fire down and stopping it, so that the fire didn't get into the ditch," Schmidt said.
