Perham gears up for holiday season

For the seventh year, Perham will usher in the holiday season with a procession of colorful Christmas lights, festive fanfare and hometown hospitality.

For the seventh year, Perham will usher in the holiday season with a procession of colorful Christmas lights, festive fanfare and hometown hospitality.

The 7th Annual "Parade of Lights" will be November 23, at 6 p.m. The event has become a Perham tradition that attracts spectators and shoppers from throughout Minnesota and North Dakota.

The holidays start early in Perham, and continue with activities, events and promotions nearly every week up until Christmas.

First on the schedule is the Perham Women of Focus Christmas Bazaar, Art and Craft Sale. Two school buildings, packed with more than 100 vendors, will be the sites for this popular event, Nov. 3.

A pre-season "open house" promotion will be hosted by Perham retailers and the Perham Area Chamber of Commerce, November 9-10.

The grand kick-off for the holidays is the "Parade of Lights" on November 23.

Parade units, illuminated for the holiday, will form a procession through downtown Perham. Refreshments will be available on the brightly decorated sidewalks, and merchants will serve goodies in their stores as well.

Entries are being sought for the "Parade of Lights."

The parade route has been changed from last year. Check-in/line-up begins at 5 p.m. and will be on the corner of 6th Ave. SW & 5th St. SW by St. Paul's Church. At check-in, participants will be given a parade number and shown where to line up. The parade will start promptly at 6 p.m.

Walkers may join in the parade at Someplace Special which is located on the corner of 5th Ave. SW and Main Street.

St. Paul's School will be used for a warming facility. There will be hot drinks and snacks available.

Float winners will be announced after the parade at Mulligan's (Lakeside Golf Course) on County Road 51.

The Parade of Lights Committee and/or the Perham Area Chamber will not assume any responsibility or liability for accidents. All entry participants are responsible for their own insurance, medical and liability.

In the interest of safety, participants are asked not to throw candy from moving floats.
