A Perham Army National Guardsman was wounded July 25 in Iraq when a landmine exploded.

Information was sketchy when this edition went to press, but Specialist Lucas Schmitz, a 2003 Perham High School graduate, sustained severe injuries to his right leg. He is hospitalized in Germany.

Schmitz, the son of Tim and Nancy Schmitz, was a gunner on Humvee, with the Detroit Lakes headquartered 2-136 CAB infantry unit. He has been serving in Iraq for the past four months.
