Perham man and dog OK after falling through ice on Little Pine Lake

A Perham man and his dog are OK after falling into the water on Little Pine Lake.

The man, age 30, was fishing Friday, Jan. 31, when his dog became trapped in open water, according to a report from the Otter Tail County Sheriff Office.

The dog had been chasing swans that had landed in the nearby open water. The dog jumped into the water where she became stuck. The man went to help his dog but, as he got close, he fell through the ice.

He managed to get himself out of the water and called 911, according to the report. He met EMS at the shore. He was then taken to Perham Health to be monitored for injury and hypothermia.

Perham Fire and Rescue successfully rescued the dog, uninjured, from the open water. The dog was also taken to Perham Health where she was reunited with her owner, who was soon released from the hospital, according to the report.

Perham EMS, Perham Fire and Rescue, Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office, and the Minnesota State Patrol responded to the 911 call.
