The Yellowjacket tennis team gave Minnewaska all they could handle on Monday. The Lakers prevailed with a 5-2 win, but the match was there for the Jackets to take.
The match was tied 2-2 with three matches remaining, two of which were in a third set. Michael Buer gave it his all in a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 loss at No. 3 singles while John Carlson and Nick Delaney won their first set at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, before dropping the final two sets, 7-5, 6-2.
Perham's two wins came in singles where Gus Rutten won a 6-1, 6-0 decision at the No. 1 spot while Cody Gustafson won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2.

"The players are improving from match to match and we hope to continue to make progress through the sub-section tourney," head coach Kyle Knutson said.
The Jackets dual with Wadena-Deer Creek on May 4 was postponed because of rain. No make-up date has been set.
Perham will play in the Mid-State Conference Championships today (May 10) in Park Rapids. The individual tournament begins at 10 a.m. Last year, Gustafson finished in third place at No. 1 singles for the Jackets. Staples-Motley is the defending Mid-State champion.
The Yellowjackets will close out the regular season with a home triangular on May 17 starting at 3 p.m.
