Perham got a pair of outstanding pitching performances in their season opener Tuesday as they swept Mid-State Conference foe, Wadena-Deer Creek, 13-1 and 7-3.

Game one was all about the men on the mound as starter Philip Moenkedick and reliever Mac Stoll combined to strike out 13 Wolverines in the 13-1, five inning no-hitter.

Moenkedick went the first three innings, striking out eight with one walk as the lone blemish on his afternoon. Stoll picked up where Moenkedick left off, whiffing five W-DC batters while allowing one unearned run.

Offensively, Perham came out of the dugout swinging, collecting 11 hits. Herschel Masinas and Isaac Stoll each had three hits to pace the Jackets. Masinas scored four runs while Stoll drove in four Jackets. Justin Berns was also hot at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

The Jackets led 5-0 when they broke the game open in the third with a six-run rally.

Game two started slowly, but Perham finally got going with a four-run fourth as they went on to the 7-3 win.

Isaac Stoll, Dylan Anderson and Beau Bruhn each collected two hits a piece in the win. Anderson and Bruhn also combined for four RBI.

Jonnie Schmitz started for Perham and picked up the win with four-plus innings of work. He allowed one run while striking out six.

Eric Weller and Isaac Stoll pitched in relief.

"It went well last night," head coach Hans Hanson said. We hit better than I expected."

Perham's defense was solid, despite the fact that the team only had a couple of outdoor practices before their first game. The Jackets committed just one error in the two games.

The Jackets will have plenty of time to prepare for their next game as they are set to open their home schedule with a Mid-State doubleheader against Crosby-Ironton on April 24.
