The Yellowjacket swim team had a number of top-10 finishes as they took 7th overall at the Section 3A True Team Meet last Saturday in Hutchinson.

Willmar edged Fergus Falls by 41 points for the section title (1563-1522). Perham finished with 803 points, ahead of Park Rapids (801) and Morris Area (321).

The school record in the 200 medley relay set by Gavin Grismer, Luke Hofland, Ethan McMahon and Casey Grismer on Jan. 8 didn't last long. That same team lowered their record time to 1:49.38 to finish fourth.

Those same four swimmers were responsible for all of the team's top-10 finishes. Casey Grismer went on to take fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:55.68) and sixth in the 100 free (51.90). McMahon also had a pair of top-10's. He was fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.17, just barely missing the school record of 1:00.15 set in 2003 by Philip Nelson. McMahon also finished eighth in the 200 I.M. (2:20.21).

Hofland matched his teammates with a fourth place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.61) and Gavin Grismer came in seventh in the 100 backstroke (1:02.46). Gavin also had a section qualifying time of 2:21.80 in the 200 I.M., which was good for 10th place.

The four teamed up again for a fifth place finish in the 200 free relay.

Also earning a spot at the section meet was Casey Rutten with a time of 1:09.87 in the 100 backstroke, which was good for 20th place at the 3A True Team Meet.

Perham will get their second "home" meet of the season tonight (Jan. 24) when they face Detroit Lakes in a dual meet at the BTD Aquatic Center in D.L. with a 6 p.m. start. On Jan. 26, the team heads south for the Cardinal Invitational in Willmar starting at 10 a.m.
