Perham welcomes the first baby born in 2019

Jamey Johnson's due date wasn't until Jan. 9, but baby Felix was determined to ring in the new year earlier than that. Jamey Johnson and Aaron Janiak of Detroit Lakes welcomed Felix Nikolai Janiak into the world weighing 7 pounds 2 ounces and 20 inches in length at 1:19 P.M. on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 making Felix the first baby of the New Year born at Perham Health. Dr. Jaimie Deraney delivered the baby, and Nurses Anna Kimball and Janell Thorson helped with the delivery.

"Dr. Deraney delivered all three of my children, so it's cool the last one I'm having was the first one born in 2019," Johnson said.

Felix's older siblings Damian, Shia and Lake, curiously gathered around their newest family member on Thursday afternoon in the hospital room at Perham Health.

"He's the best brother," Damian said. "He's cute and handsome," sister Shia added "He looks like mom and dad."

Several area businesses and organizations donated merchandise and gift cards to the family.
