Perham's Hauge to perform with National FFA Band

When the lights are dimmed and a hush descends upon an audience of more than 49,000 at the world's largest annual youth convention this October, a local FFA member will share the spotlight in a musical performance that will inspire the crowd and provide memories to last a lifetime.

Marie Hauge, of Perham has been selected to play trumpet in the 2006 National FFA Band. The 80-member band will perform at various events throughout the organization's national convention, October 25-28 in Indianapolis, IN.

Hauge is a member of the Perham FFA Chapter. She is the daughter of Kermit & Ramona Hauge.

FFA band members are nominated by their state associations and selected from hundreds of applicants. The young musicians will arrive in Indianapolis four days before the convention to rehearse. The band is directed by Joseph P. LaJoye of Hastings, MI and is sponsored by the FFA Foundation.

FFA is a national organization of 490,017 members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture. Local, state and national activities and award programs provide opportunities for students to apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom. The organization has 7,210 local chapters located throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands. FFA's mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
