Doug Huebsch of Perham is closing out his final four-year term as a county commissioner. He was elected to his first term in 2008, and now reflects on his service as one of five members of the Otter Tail County Board of Commissioners.
“It has been a real pleasure to serve. I really love Otter Tail County,” Huebsch said.
Otter Tail County is one of Minnesota’s largest counties and is, in fact, larger than the state of Rhode Island.
“I tried to do my best to make Otter Tail County a better place in which to live, work, play and retire,” Huebsch said.
He said that living in Otter Tail County means something different to each person in the county.

“It’s impossible to reach 100% consensus on all things, but through compromise, collectively most of us are content and happy and living our best lives in Otter Tail County,” Huebsch said.
He is most proud of his work in the areas of budget, economic development, public health and solid waste management.
“Twelve years is a long time, and now is a good time for me to give someone else a chance to move the county forward,” he said. “I can’t imagine living anywhere else.”
Facing off to replace Huebsch in Commissioner District No. 1 are Dan Bucholz of rural Perham and Betsy Roder of New York Mills.
District 1 includes 13 townships and the communities of Perham, Dent, New York Mills and Richville.
