The Perham's Promise, Inc. board of directors has announced new board members, Deb Sonnenberg and Dori Mitchell.
Sonnenberg will serve as the organization's treasurer. She is a co-owner of Marlo Motors of Perham. Mitchell will serve as a community representative. She works at the Pines Gifts and Wooden Spoon store in Perham and is a Creative Memories consultant.
They are replacing outgoing board members Jill Shipman and Jo Stregge.
Perham's Promise, Inc. is a local non-profit organization that focuses its efforts on making Perham the best place for children and families to live, work, play, and thrive. Under the organization's umbrella of activities is the Early Childhood Family Initiative which offers Tot Time at the PACC, Stories on the Go, the Early Childhood Welcome Express, community block parties, and a focus on school readiness and family literacy. These programs are funded through West Central Initiative Foundation.
The group also makes mini-grants available to other non-profit groups with a focus on youth and families. So far this year they have granted, with support from the United Way of Otter Tail County, money to the LAPS Swim Program, Heart of the Lakes Elementary for field trips, St. Paul's Lutheran School for special events, the Perham High School Orchestra and Choir, the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) group, Kid's Adventure Preschool, Otter Tail County Public Health for bike helmets for kids, and the East Otter Tail Professional Child Care Association.

Another service to the community which is coordinated through Perham's Promise is the Perham Show on TV3. "In exchange for hosting the show," said Patty Nunn, Perham's Promise Outreach Director, "we are able to offer time to local non-profits to promote their activities and events. We try to help promote events of interest to children and families as well as give some recognition to people who are doing special and interesting things."
Perham's Promise, Inc. relies solely on grants, fundraisers, and donations to do its work.
At the March 12 meeting, guest speaker Wes Binner from West Central Initiative presented a program called, "Strategic Planning and Fund Development" to assist the group with planning their 2007-08 fiscal year.
