Looking fresh and hungry for action after playing only two matches in the last 16 days, Perham started strong, and finished even stronger in a 3-0 win over West Central Area Thursday at Prairie Wind Gymnasium.

Rachel Pfeffer got the Yellow Jackets out to a 6-0 lead with her serve in game one. Perham remained strong from the service line, getting four aces in the game, three by Emily Rutten, to win 25-12.

Game two was close early on, with Perham finally breaking free after a 7-7 tie. Ace serves by Julie Wierbos and Pfeffer helped the Jackets build a 17-10 lead. The Knights would put up a good enough effort to make Perham earn a 25-17 win to go up in the match, 2-0.

Game three was all about the Moenkedick girls. Elisa, a junior middle hitter, dominated the net, getting most of her 10 kills and six blocks in the final game. She threw in an ace and assist for good measure. Katrina, a freshman hitter/setter, picked up six assists and two kills in game three, along with three digs from the back row.

Senior Nicci Williamson got Perham off to a good start in game three, putting them up 7-1 on her serve. An ace serve by Chelsey Olson and a pair from Kaylan Huber, plus the work of Elisa Moenkedick at the net, gave the Jackets an easy 25-9 win to end the match.

  • Although no one can say for certain, it is believed that WCA has never beat Perham since the high school opened in 1993. If anyone can confirm or clarify, please contact us at sports@eot.com.
