After 35 years in business, the old Thrifty White store in Perham closed down this past winter, but now it appears somebody will be breathing new life into the building. According to Chuck Johnson, Economic Development Director with the city of Perham, a local buyer has come to a purchase agreement with the owner of the former Thrifty White Drug store, Emmitt McCormick of Plymouth, Minnesota. Closing of the sale is expected sometime by the end of the year.
The 14,000 square foot building, located on the corner of first avenue south and main street, closed last December. The Thrifty White company said it wanted to focus more on the healthcare aspect of the business and less on the general merchandise side of its stores.
Thrifty White Pharmacy relocated to its current location in Central Market in April of 2016.
Johnson, said the new owner does not want to release his name or go public with plans or a business model for the property any time soon.
