The drawing for the quilt will be held on June 24 on the last day of the 19th annual East Otter Tail County Historical Society Quilt competition and show.

May quilt event expected to draw hundreds

On April 10, the Perham City Council granted permission for a 20 by 30-foot tent to be placed on 2nd Avenue in front of the Bay Window Quilt Shop on Sunday, May 14 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

The big tent is part of Sarah Haydens "thank you" to Bay Window customers. The customer appreciation will last from noon until about 4:00. She expects between 250 and 300 people from around the region to attend the event.

A portion of 2nd Avenue will be blocked off with cones and barricades still allowing access to other businesses.

This will be the 4th year Hayden has held the special event.

The project invites people to make a 6 1/2 ", 9 1/2" or 12 1/2" quilt block in shades of pink and white. The blocks will be put together into quilts and then turned over to the Quiltpink project to be auctioned off on eBay in the spring of 2007.

Bay Window has set a goal of 200 blocks. Organizers there say, "You can make more than one and you can even donate an entire quilt if you like. There is no cost to participate, use any fabric you like."

More information is available at the Bay Window store: 346-7272 and www.baywindowquiltshop.com .

The blocks should be brought into the shop by Saturday September 30.

Quiltpink is sponsored by Better Homes and Gardens and American Patchwork and Quilting magazines. Net proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Kommen Breast Cancer Foundation.
