McClendon made arrangements to meet with an officer posing as a 14-year-old girl. After travelling over 300 miles to the town 15 miles south of Rochester expecting to meet with the girl, McClendon was arrested and searched. McClendon allegedly gave a voluntary statement to law officers and when questioned about the chat room activity indicated his intentions had been to travel to Kasson to have sex with the 14-year-old girl.
