Robert Edward "Ed" Bachmann, 69, of rural Barnesville, Minnesota died Friday, March 30, 2007 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services are Monday, April 2, 2007 at 11a.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church, Barnesville, with Pastor John Hecht-Knierim officiating. Julie Jerger will serve as soloist, accompanied by organist Rosie Carr. Pallbearers are his grandsons; Jacob Thompson, Nathan Thompson, Cory Heng, Travis Walterson, Robert Anderson, Anthony Cole and Gage Bachmann. Honorary pallbearers are his granddaughters; Heidi Anderson, Stacy Cole, Angela Heng, Cami Thompson and Amanda Heng and great-grandkids; Austin Cole, Kaydi Anderson and Owen Cole.

Visitation was Sunday, April 1, from 4-8 in Dobmeier Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and two hours before at the church. Interment is at Spruce Grove Cemetery, Frazee, Minnesota.

Ed was born August 6, 1937 in Perham, Minnesota to Otto A. and S. Margaret (Rader) Bachmann. He was baptized on October 10, 1937 in the Evergreen Church, Evergreen, Minnesota, and confirmed in the Toad Lake Church, rural Frazee, Minnesota on September 3, 1950. He attended country school and grew to manhood in the Frazee area. He lived and worked in Billings, Montana before joining the United States Army on June 18, 1956. Upon his honorable discharged he returned to the Frazee area. He was united into marriage to Joyce A. Ahrens on November 24, 1956 in St. John's Lutheran Church, Corliss Township of Otter Tail County, Minnesota. This year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They lived in various locations finally settling in rural Barnesville. Ed worked as a contractor for many years, and then started Bachmann's Auctioneering in 1970. Over the years he worked as an auctioneer, a hog buyer for Hormel, and recently managed a security company. Ed and Joyce continued to live in rural Barnesville until the time of his death. He was a hard worker and loved by everyone who knew him. A man strong in his faith and true to his beliefs a true rock which his family and friends rested on.

Ed was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Barnesville and served on several church boards. He also served on the Barnesville School Board. He was a past member of the Barnesville Lions Club, the VFW Post 4628 of Barnesville, the Atherson Township Board Wilkin County, and a member of the Western Minnesota Steam Thrashers Reunion in Rollag, Minnesota. Ed loved hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, and tractors.

He is survived by his wife Joyce; two sons, Monte (Ginny) Bachmann of Horace, North Dakota and Randy (Deb) Bachmann of Panama City, Florida; two daughters, Ivy (Chuck Tysver) Thompson and Shelly (Larry) Heng all of Barnesville; ten grandchildren, Heidi (Robert) Anderson of Fargo, Travis (Becki) Walterson of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Stacy (Anthony) Cole of Moscow, Idaho, Jacob (Fiancé Kari Rauqust) Thompson of Barnesville, Nathan (Brandi Braton) Thompson of Barnesville, Cory (Ashley Aakre) Heng of Barnesville, Angela (Adam Keeping) Heng of Barnesville, Cami Thompson at home in Barnesville, Amanda Heng also at home in Barnesville and Gage Bachmann at home in Horace; four great-grandchildren, Austin Cole, Kaydi Anderson, Owen Cole and baby girl Heng. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Marilyn (Duane) Grieser of Creighton, MO, Clair (Verna) Bachmann of Frazee, Kathleen Wouters of Vergas, MN, and Jon (Lola) Bachmann of Frazee.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son-in-law David Thompson, his brother-in-law, Larry Wouters, and his niece, Mary Elizabeth Grieser.
