A full week of holiday cheer planned in New York Mills would create a merry Christmas even for Scrooge.

For the ninth year, the New York Mills Civic & Commerce Association is coordinating the Christmas Festival, including a Christmas tree and holiday display in the ballroom level of the New York Mills City Hall.

The festival kicks off this Friday, Nov. 24 - the day after Thanksgiving - and Santa will be in town.

Kids cookie decorating will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Santa will be greeting kids and parents, and he will be drawing for two bicycles to be given away. The TOPS bake and craft sale is the same day. Chili and Chowder will be served at the Senior Citizens Center from 4-8 p.m.

The finale of the Nov. 24 festivities is a drawing for $100 in "Mills Marks."

The holiday display will be up at noon every day, open until 5 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 25, but until 7 p.m. through Friday Dec., 1.

Guests are invited to vote on their favorite display, and sign up daily for door prizes. The silent auction will close at 10 p.m. on Dec. 2, during the Christmas party.

A Senior Tea, hosted by the New Horizons Women's Club, is 1-3 p.m. on Nov. 30.

An Elvis impersonator will be singing Christmas carols from 5 to 7 p.m., and free beverages and hors d'oeuvres will be served at city hall Dec. 1.

Finally, on Dec. 2, the Community Christmas Party doors will open at city hall at 6 p.m.

Tickets for the party are available at Hardware Hank and Farmers & Merchants State Bank.

All proceeds from the community Christmas party will go toward the local Santa Anonymous drive.
