Sebeka tops NY Mills in extra innings

The Eagles girls softball team pulled off an exciting comeback and scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th to tie Sebeka on Tuesday in New York Mills. However, Sebeka quickly took the wind out of the Eagles sails to win 9-5.

NY Mills lost to Verndale on Monday but did pick up a win over Pillager last week.

NY Mills 7, Pillager 6

The Eagles scored two runs in the first inning on back-to-back singles by Stephanie Cichy and Emily Salo, followed by walks to Brea Welter, Macailia Warner and Rebecca Ellingworth. Pillager scored one run in the inning and the Eagles came back with two more in the 2nd. Alyssa Lee walked, Cichy reached on an error and Emily Salo followed with an RBI groundout. Kristina Boe drove in a run with an RBI single for a 4-1 Eagles lead after two innings.

Salo drove in Cichy in the 4th inning and a Cichy double in the 5th scored Kim Becker and Lee for a 7-2 lead. The Huskies scored one run in the 4th, two in the 5th and two in the 6th to get within one at 7-6.

The Eagles defense came through in the seventh to turn a crucial double play and end a Huskies scoring chance.

Cichy pitched the complete game and gave up six runs on nine hits, and walked seven. The Eagles scored seven runs on eight hits with eight walks.

Verndale 7, NY Mills 3

The Eagles scored three runs in the 1st inning on a double by Stephanie Cichy, an RBI single by Emily Salo and a 2-run homer over the left field fence by Kristi Boe. But that was all the Eagles would score the rest of the game.

Verndale scored one run in the 2nd, three in the 3rd, two in the 5th, and one in the 6th. The Eagles out-hit the Pirates 10-8, but stranded nine runners.

Cichy pitched the complete game and gave up seven runs on eight hits, while walking five.

Salo, Boe and Macailia Warner each had two hits. Tessa Wegscheid, Cichy, Brea Welter and Alyssa Lee each had one hit.
