After an offensive outburst began the week for the Eagle baseball team, Mills fell on hard times in a pair of non-conference games against fellow 6A teams.
The memory of a disappointing loss to Pillager to open the season must have been fresh in the minds of the Eagles last Thursday when they crushed the Huskies 19-6 to earn a season split.
Mills was already ahead 3-1 when they opened the game up in the third. The Eagles sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring seven runs. After the first two batters got out, Mills had eight consecutive hitters reach base. The first run scored when Jason Burg was hit by a pitch for the third time. Burg ended up getting hit by a pitch four times in the game. He made Pillager pay for their mistakes as he scored all four times.

The Eagles continued their offensive onslaught with four more runs in the fourth before finishing the game by 10-run rule by adding five runs in the fifth.
Jeremy Hagen finished the game 4-for-5 with two runs scored, Cory Perala was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and Tyler Wegscheid was 3-for-4. Burg finished with five runs scored and Perala, Wegscheid and Jordan Vaughan each scored three runs.
Mills then stepped out of the Park Region Conference for a pair of road games.
They dropped a 5-3 game at Ashby on Friday. Ashby got on the boared first with a three-run first. Mills answered with three of their own in the third, only to see Ashby respond with two more in their half of the third.
The first inning blues struck the Eagles at Browerville/Eagle Valley on Monday. Burg lasted just 1/3 of an inning as he allowed nine runs on six hits in the first inning as B/EV went on to a 16-6 win. Drew Schultz and Cavin Burbe each homered in the loss.
NY Mills will play three games this week to wrap-up the regular season. The Eagles will host No. 14-A Bertha-Hewitt today (May 17) at Jacobson Field. The Bears (10-3, 9-1 Park Region) won the first meeting between the teams on April 24, 9-6.
From there, Mills will hit the road looking for the season sweep over Otter Tail Central (5-8, 4-6 Park Region) on May 22. The Eagles won the first game on April 26, 6-1.
The regular season finale will be at home against Menahga (4-8, 3-5 Park Region) on May 24.
