Sheriff news: Driver injured west of Urbank
A 31-year-old Madison woman was injured in a single-vehicle rollover at 6:46 a.m. July 31, west of Urbank in southeastern Otter Tail County.
Alaina Wangler was southbound on Highway 38 when she struck a driveway access. Her vehicle went airborne a short distance and landed on its side.
She was wearing her seat belt when the accident took place, according to law enforcement. Parkers Prairie Ambulance personnel took Wangler to the hospital in Alexandria.
Vandalism near Dent
A residence near Big McDonald Lake, north of Dent, was the scene of vandalism and reported to sheriff deputies on July 31.
There was damage to a paddle boat and bike tires were cut. Sheriff deputies said there were no immediate suspects.
A rural Battle Lake resident came close to being a victim of a scam and losing $15,000 on Aug. 1.
A caller told the Otter Tail County resident to send $15,000 right away in order to get a grandson out of jail.
Sheriff deputies said a wire transfer was made but that the rural Battle Lake resident’s bank was able to stop the transaction, saving the would-be victim the $15,000.
This was another attempt by scam artists who call potential victims, referred to by law enforcement as “the grandparent scam.”

Storage unit theft reported
A storage unit near Fergus Falls had a lock that was improperly installed. This resulted in the theft of several items, reported on Aug. 4.
Items missing include a DeWalt compressor, Milwaukee cordless drill set, cordless grinder and grill.
The items had last been seen by the owner on July 4.
Vandalism near North Lake Lida
Sheriff deputies reported vandalism Aug. 3 at North Lake Lida, east of Pelican Rapids.
A car window was broken out and the dashboard pulled apart. A nearby camper had a window smashed.
Barn destroyed by fire
Fire destroyed a barn northeast of Bluffton in eastern Otter Tail County at 4:10 a.m. on Aug. 3.
The location was on 620th Avenue and close to Highway 75.
Car battery stolen
A resident who lives at 245th Avenue, southeast of Fergus Falls, reported the theft of a car battery from an unlocked vehicle on Aug. 2.
Stolen was an Interstate battery worth an estimated $100. There were no immediate suspects.
A drive-off was reported Aug. 2 from a convenience store on Fort Thunder Road south of Perham. Unpaid gasoline amounted to $79.
