Truck falls through ice at Marion Lake

A truck fell through ice near the public access at Marion Lake, southwest of Perham, at 10:37 a.m. on Dec. 25.

There were no injuries, since the driver and passenger were not in the vehicle when it crashed through the ice. The exact location was near Kleins Drive.

 

Thieves linked to two county burglaries

Sheriff deputies surmise that thieves are linked to burglaries in Elizabeth and Erhard, on Dec. 24. The first burglary took place at the Silver Dollar tavern in Elizabeth, where money was taken. The second burglary took place at Hillbillies Vittles and Brew in Erhard.

"In Erhard, it was discovered that thieves had forced entry into the rear of the establishment in early-morning hours," said County Sheriff Administrative Lt. Keith Van Dyke.

"The suspects then removed items, property and pull-tab money before leaving the scene of the crime."

 

Stavanger Church burglary

A break-in at Stavanger Lutheran Church, northeast of Fergus Falls, likely took place late in the evening of Dec. 23.

"A member of the congregation arrived to shovel snow from the sidewalk prior to Christmas Eve morning worship and discovered a door leading to the church basement had been forced open," said County Sheriff Administrative Lt. Keith Van Dyke.

He said the suspect or suspects then forced entry into the clergy's office before removing two security safes containing church documents and records.

Later, at 10:40 a.m., a passerby in rural Vergas discovered both safes badly damaged along the roadway. The safes had been forced open but many documents were, nonetheless, recovered.

 

 

Fire destroys house southeast of Underwood

Fire destroyed a rental house southeast of Underwood on Dec. 23.

"The residents were not home at the time, and the fire is believed to have originated in the area near the fireplace," said County Sheriff Administrative Lt. Keith Van Dyke.

The fire was reported by a neighbor who informed the fire department at 2:49 p.m.

Location of the rental house was near Highway 119, southeast of Underwood.

Driver injured near Dent

A driver lost control of his vehicle on a turn with icy roads southwest of Dent on Dec. 22.

"The driver was northbound on Highway 35, near the junction of Downy Drive, when the accident took place," said County Sheriff Administrative Lt. Keith Van Dyke.

The driver left the road, entered a ditch, and hit a power line pole. He sustained minor injuries in the accident near Star Lake.

Another accident, with injuries, took place Dec. 23 along Interstate 94 near the Hansel Lake rest area. This mishap took place at 11:56 p.m.

 

Vehicle stolen

A rural Dent resident reported Dec. 23 that his ex-wife stole his vehicle, a truck. The vehicle was taken from his grandfather's residence. The complainant told authorities he believes the vehicle may have been taken to the ex-wife's parents' residence.
