To the Editor:

Pride in community can go a long way to making a small town a great small town.

New York Mills is such a place--you can see the pride in peoples' eyes when you talk about how great their downtown looks and what a great school system they have.

We have a lovely library that appeals to all ages and reading/computer skills. We have a school system that excels not only in academics, sports and art, but also produces graduates who can compete in the outside world with confidence in themselves and pride in where they came from.

On Monday, Nov. 6, the community of New York Mills has an opportunity to pay back a little of what they get from their home town and enjoy themselves at the same time.

The GFWC New Horizons Club of New York Mills is having a "silent auction" at the Cultural Center beginning at 7 p.m. The public is invited to come in, check out the donated items and have "a little lunch." Community spirit will abound!

All proceeds will be divided between the Mills Public Library and the "Play Matters" playground equipment project for our school.

If anyone would care to donate to the auction they can call me at 837-5953 and I will see that it gets to where it needs to be. See you there!
