"More bathrooms."
"...definitely needs more bathrooms!"
Theater-goers had an opportunity to sound off during the recent community theater performances of "Godspell."
The basic survey results are printed on page 3 in this edition. But survey participants were also invited to write comments on a possible auditorium expansion-renovation, some of which are reprinted here.
"Yes, it is time for major updating."

"Great idea and needed. We can only get bigger and better. Go for it."
School officials are hoping to raise $1.2 million--entirely through private donations. The long range strategy is to upgrade the 1936 auditorium, which would continue to serve indefinitely. The new school, anticipated in 15-20 years, would include a larger, state-of-the-art auditorium. But with Perham's anticipated growth, there it is likely there will be a need for continued use of the old theater.
New building needed. I moved here 35 years ago with a son in 8th grade. After living in the Mpls area I was shocked at the conditions of this school & auditorium. It was a disgrace then & is worse now. A remodeling job is not needed - a new bldg is. Perham can spend 2 million dollars to build a liquor store. How about building a new auditorium that the kids and people of Perham can be proud of.
Describing Perham school facilities and the auditorium as a"disgrace" is a little extreme. Seventeen years ago, $650,000 was invested in the auditorium, and it has served the community well. But there is no question that it is time to re-invest.
"ARTS ONLY! Only if this would be for arts. Would not donate if this was part of a package which included increased athletic facilities as suggested in the Perham paper."
At least one writer said that, under the present financial stress that schools face, the money should be spent on needs that are more important. Hard to argue with that, but that's why the auditorium campaign is aiming at private contributions--rather than going directly to the taxpayers with a referendum.
"...the performance is wonderful - But, the sound system is causing great distraction".
"...musical was great - please fix sound system".

"...Sound system ??? Not good!"
Whether or not the money will follow is up to us. But two needs were expressed loud and clear in the survey comments: More bathrooms, and better sound system. As school buildings director Fred Sailer stated at the Chamber "Power Hour" meeting Dec. 11, "if all else fails, the least we will put $30,000 into sound."
"First things first - get the *#$!+#=!^# sound system fixed!!"
