Swimmers beat D.L. again

It was a big night for the Perham boys swim team last Thursday in Detroit Lakes. The Jackets led D.L. at the BTD Aquatic Center from beginning to end, and picked up their third straight dual meet win over the Lakers, 159-142.

For the third time in less than a month, the 200 medley relay team of Gavin Grismer, Luke Hofland, Ethan McMahon and Casey Grismer lowered their school record mark to 1:48.67.

It was the first of eight first place finishes for Perham. Casey Grismer won a pair of events, the 50 free (23.88) and the 100 free (52.60). His time in the 50 free was within a half-second of the school record of 23.32 set in 2000 by Drew Pawlowski.

Luke Hofland also won a pair of events, the 200 free (2:04.62) and the 100 breaststroke (1:06.75). Gavin Grismer (500 free) and Ethan McMahon (100 butterfly) also took first place, as did the 200 free relay team.

Willmar meet canceled

The Jackets were scheduled to swim in the Willmar Invitational on Saturday. The meet was canceled because the host Cardinals had qualified the week earlier for the State True Team Meet in Minneapolis, which was also scheduled for Jan. 26.

Back-to-back

The swim team will has a tough schedule this week with long bus rides to meets on back-to-back days. On Feb. 1, Perham will travel to Mesabi East High School in Aurora for a dual meet with the Giants starting at 4:30 p.m.

After making the long drive home from the Iron Range after the meet, the Jackets will have to get up early to head to Park Rapids on Feb. 2 to participate in the Panther Invitational with a scheduled start time of 9 a.m.
