Fadhil Nkurlu, a Tanzanian musician (pianist/composer/singer/producer/song writer) born in the heart of Tanzania, will perform Saturday, 8 p.m., at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center.
Fadhil grew up in a musical atmosphere and has performed with many local bands in the Twin Cities like Mila Band, Ananse Band, African Musical Experience and Marimba Africa. He has played with big musical names in Africa like Samba Mapangala, Lokassa Ya Mbongo, Ngouma Lokito, Shimita.
Fadhil has presented music workshops at University of Northern Iowa and has taught African music through field recording, folktales and narratives at Chautauqua Institution in New York State. His two songs, Mazowea and Safari, are part of the sound tracks for a movie called TUSAMEHE.
Fadhil, who also holds a degree in Engineering from Winona State University, is currently working on his first album.
